System architecture
I specialize in microwave transmitters and receiver front-ends. In the case of communications systems (satellite or terrestrial), linearity becomes an important specification and depends on the waveforms used. In the case of radar systems, the signal is usually pulsed and the pulse shape becomes an important aspect of the system specifications. In the case of EW systems, bandwidth and saturated power are key specifications. I help the client define the system specifications and link budget that will meet overall performance requirements, and flow down those specifications to the next tier subsystem and module level specifications.
Subsystem and Module design
An example of such a project would be developing a rack-mount system or a building block module. The design covers the RF, DC, EMI/EMC issues, thermal considerations, mechanical design, CAD layout and digital control. The constituent PC boards are designed using state-of-the-art tools starting from schematic, layout, BOM generation and configuration management. I support all the above functions in addition to manufacture, assembly and testing.
Technical write-ups and proposal support
Technical papers and patents
I convert technical data and research results into technical papers suitable for presentation in prestigious conferences or publication in journals with heightened visibility such as those offered by IEEE organization. I can also work with the client to create IP patents based on the said research results.
Proposal support
I work with the client to understand and analyze government and prime contractors Request For Proposal (RFP) documents and interact with the RFP issuer to clarify specifications before writing a full technical proposal in response to the RFP. I have written many winning proposals in the past three decades to agencies such as DARPA, NASA, NAVAIR, Lincoln Labs, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and others.
Technical reports
I generate technical reports based on project data that include theory of operation, design, schematics, layout, Bill of Material (BOM), simulations, and measured data. The form of the report is dictated by the client and their needs, and the finished product is guaranteed by our underlying commitment to meet or exceed the customer’s expectations.
Engineering Technical reviews
Onsite program reviews
I participate in all relevant technical reviews of a program starting from concept design review, preliminary design review (PDR), critical design review (CDR), and other reviews whether I am a presenter or listen to others’ presentations to provide feedback and critique. I travel as needed to the location of the meeting whether in my client’s premises or their customer’s location.
Online Technical Exchange meetings
Technical Exchange Meetings (TIMs) are usually carried out by phone or teleconferencing and are held periodically throughout the execution of a program. I make myself available to join in those TIMs as required to participate in the proceedings and to help resolve any issues that may arise during execution throughout the course of the program.
